- My Very Easy Method Just Speeds Up Naming Planets
Now, Pluto isn't even a planet. To boot, the uniqueness of our solar system is also dwindling--European astronomers just discovered 32 new planets outside our solar system. The discovery increased the number of planets discovered outside the solar system to more than 400. According to Stephane Udry of the University of Geneva, this is very good news:
''I'm pretty confident that there are Earth-like planets everywhere,'' Udry said in a Web-based news briefing from a conference in Portugal. ''Nature doesn't like a vacuum. If there is space to put a planet there, there will be a planet there.''I'll get working on that 400-letter acronym now.

hahahaha oh I hope you don't finish that acronym. Could be messy.
ReplyDeleteOkay, before I go on, I must ask: is this Ben Korman? If not, well then this comment is just a little treat. Otherwise, I should be following your blog.
Anyway. This made me laugh. Especially because I effing sucked at those stupid acronyms and could never remember the names anyway. But I liked that you related something so rooted in childhood to something so ... intangible and (dare I say?) spacey.
Maybe the only think I could suggest is adding a picture, perhaps of kids in a classroom. And the part of the quote mentioning Earth-like planets invoked images of aliens. Coulda thrown them in somewhere (alien schoolchildren?!). I know there's a kids movie coming out called Planet 51 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0762125/), might wanna check it out.
